rara calendar: july

in the rara sky, the constellation Corlacerta rises. warmth reaches for the deepest depths, the hidden is longing to be revealed. water washes over the heat, nature counterbalances itself.

Corlacerta was born of her own hunger. She climbs – hand over hand through the dark, taking what the sky won't miss. Ruby is her first theft, still hot from the taking. Rubellite is what happens when that fire has to travel far and slow through her before it reaches her palm. And the white Pearl – the Pearl she never stole at all. It grew in her wake, patient, underwater, while she wasn't looking.

Three kinds of light, living in her at once: seized, carried, and given. She reaches the fullness: every known way of holding light, held at the same time.

Ruby wears the color of a wound – a splash of chromium trapped inside stone. Tilt it and the red moves: deeper, thinner, alive, refusing to sit still.

The Sanskrit word for ruby is ratnaraj, king of gems, and Burmese warriors once carried them under the skin, cut into the flesh itself, certain the stone made a body harder to kill. Heart of the sun: red that burns steady beneath the surface, the ember every dawn borrows from.

Rubellite is tourmaline that decided pink wasn't enough – traces of manganese pushing the color past blush into something closer to blood diluted by water. Miners once mistook whole veins of it for ruby, centuries before anyone had the tools to tell them apart. Hold it to light and it splits – pleochroic, throwing pink from one face and violet-red from another, the same crystal arguing with itself.

Mutable light: color that traveled so far through stone it came out changed, and calls that change its truest form.

The white Pearl needed no hand at all. It grew in silence, underwater, in the dark she wasn't even watching. Nacre laid over nacre, year on year, until an accident of patience became luminous. Sailors once called pearls the tears of the moon, formed each time it wept into the sea.
Profound purity: light with no theft in its history, made only of time and stillness.

rara treasures stones as fragments of the earth's own poetry. their beauty is so vital that humanity has always delved into the depths of the soil, seeking to touch the hidden glow of the land itself. in those depths, the earth dreams in green fire, waiting to be awakened
